Canyons in Iceland

Fjaðrárgljúfur is a narrow canyon in South Iceland carved by the Fjaðrá river, known for its steep colorful walls that rise about 100 meters above the water. The canyon is a short walk from the main road and offers dramatic views of the layered rock formations and the river winding below, making it a popular photography spot along Route 1. It's worth a stop if you're driving through the south coast, especially in good weather when the light brings out the colors of the canyon walls.

Múlagljúfur is a narrow canyon with a small waterfall tucked in the countryside between Vík and Skaftafell in south Iceland. The steep walls create an intimate gorge where water flows year-round, and it's an easy walk from the parking area to see the falls up close. Locals know it as a quieter alternative to the more crowded southern waterfalls, though the narrow gorge can be slippery when wet.
