MyIceland is a community-driven travel platform built for Iceland. We believe the best travel advice comes from people who've actually been there — not algorithms, not sponsored listings, not travel agencies.
Every place on MyIceland was added by a real traveler. Every photo was taken by someone who stood there. Every comment is from someone who's been.
How we're different
Most travel platforms quietly work against you — rankings go to whoever pays the most, and sponsored listings get dressed up as honest recommendations. MyIceland is built the opposite way. It's free to use — for travelers and businesses alike. Every place, photo, and comment comes from real travelers, never an editorial team, a marketing department, or an algorithm — and when a photo carries location data, we check it against the place, so you can trust it was genuinely taken there. A place's rank is never for sale: position comes only from real community activity — the likes, visits, and photos of people who've actually been. If we ever introduce anything paid, it will always be clearly labeled and kept separate from those real rankings. What you get is Iceland as real people experienced it — not as someone paid to put it at the top.
Book direct, pay less
When you book an Iceland trip through a big international platform, a large share of what you pay — often around 20% — never reaches the guide leading your tour or the family running your guesthouse. It's taken as commission and flows straight out of the country. To absorb that cut, local businesses raise their prices, so you pay more for the same experience. MyIceland takes no commission and adds no middleman: you connect directly with the Icelandic guide, host, or photographer, the money stays with them, and with no foreign platform skimming its share, prices can be fairer. Booking direct isn't just better for Iceland — it's better for you.

Ranking transparency
No business gets preferred placement. No travel agency pays to rank higher. Every place's position is calculated from community signals: likes, views, comments, ratings, how often a place is included in someone's trip or memory, and recency.
There is no paid content on MyIceland today. If that ever changes, sponsored placements will always be clearly labeled and visually distinct — and the organic ranking itself will never be for sale.
